Six hours is right. An hour and a half each way at an easy pace, leaving three hours to go ashore, eat and look around. Four hours is too tight if you want to get off the boat, and the trip becomes mostly transit.
You pass the fortress on the way down. This is where the Blucher was sunk on 9 April 1940, and the delay that caused is why the royal family and the government got out of Oslo. The wreck is still down there.
The sound is narrow just there, and from the boat you can see why it was possible. It is a different thing from reading about it.
If you want to land at the fortress, say so in advance. The trip has to be built around it, and then you should set aside eight hours rather than six.
Wooden houses, narrow streets and a harbour that still looks like a harbour. The guest harbour is in the middle of town, so you step off the boat straight into it. There are places to eat, but in high season call ahead from the boat.
May to September. Outside that, it is cold enough that six hours on the fjord becomes an endurance test, and half of what is open in Drobak is shut.
Most people eat in Drobak. There is no galley on board, so bring your own if you want to eat underway. On a six-hour trip you should have something with you regardless, at least for the way home.
