Time of year

May to August is the easy part of the year. In June the sun sets around half past ten and it stays light long after, so a trip leaving at nine is about right.

In August the sun goes down earlier and the colours are stronger. Many people think August is the best month for this, and it is easier to get a slot than in July.

September works too, with warmer clothes. After that it is dark before people have eaten, and the trip loses its point.

Where we go

West. The sun sets behind Bygdoy and the islands beyond, and that is where it looks best from. The skipper holds the boat still where the light is, rather than driving to reach something.

Two hours covers this. If you want to go further, to Drobak or Nesodden, set aside four or six, but then the trip is about something other than the sunset.

How many

From two to twelve. This is the trip most often booked by two people, and that is entirely fine: the price is for the boat, not per head, so two pay the same as twelve. If you are two, you get a large boat to yourselves.

Bring

Something to drink, and an extra layer. It is colder on the water than on the quay, especially once the sun is going down. There is no galley on board, so bring food if you want to eat.

Not a scheduled tour

This is not sightseeing with thirty strangers and a guide on a loudspeaker. It is the boat, you, and a skipper who keeps his distance. We own all three boats ourselves, so there is nobody between you and the person answering your enquiry.

The boats you can pick from

We own all three ourselves. One price, and the person answering you has been on board.
