A company day on the fjord: what we wish people knew first
Twelve seats, six to eight hours, and one decision that decides whether the day works: whether anyone is speaking, and when.

Most company charters we run last six to eight hours, carry between eight and twelve, and leave Aker Brygge in the afternoon. That shape works, and it works for reasons worth saying out loud.
Twelve is not a negotiation
The certificate sets the limit, not us. If you are thirteen, one stays behind or you take two boats. That is an unpleasant conversation to have on the quay, so have it now.
And give us the real number when you ask. Nine becomes eleven quickly once people hear about it over lunch.
The length decides what kind of day it is
Four hours is a break in the working day. Six hours is an event. Eight hours is a day people remember.
If you have clients on board, take eight. The short charter signals that you are pressed for time, which is the opposite of what you want to communicate when you invite someone out on the fjord.
Decide whether anyone is speaking
This is the easiest thing to forget and the most expensive to improvise. A boat underway makes noise. If someone is giving a speech, tell us in advance and the skipper will hold her still in the lee somewhere with a view, so everyone hears what is said.
We have watched people try to present at twenty knots. Nobody takes anything in and the speaker loses their voice.
The food
The galley is fully fitted and we can arrange anything from simple service to a chef on board. What you should decide is not primarily what people eat, but whether they stand or sit.
Standing means mingling and people talk to more of the room. Sitting means one table and one conversation. Both are good, but they produce completely different days, and it is worth choosing rather than discovering it halfway through.
Send allergies up front. Easier to plan around than to solve at four o'clock on a boat.
Where it lands
Six hours for twelve on Chancer: NOK 63,000 for the boat. Food at 800 a head adds 9,600. Around NOK 6,000 per person in total, excluding VAT.
Compare that with a company dinner at a good place in Oslo and the gap is smaller than people assume. The difference is that nobody watches the clock, and nobody leaves early because they parked badly.
When to book
Going out on a Saturday in June, July or August? Book now. Those dates go first and they go early.
Outside peak season a couple of weeks is usually plenty. And May and September are genuinely better for a corporate day than July, because the fjord is quieter and people are not on holiday.
Rain, and what it does not mean
Rain cancels nothing. The saloon has panoramic windows all the way around, and a grey day on the fjord is still a day on the fjord. What stops a charter is wind and sea that make it unsafe, and that call belongs to the skipper. If it is cancelled for that reason you get a new date or your money back.
